Description
The FNIRSI FNAC-28 is a pocket-sized USB power meter that measures voltage, current and power while also triggering fast charging protocols. This 2-in-1 design lets you test chargers, cables, power banks and USB devices without needing separate equipment.
What Does the FNAC-28 Do?
The FNAC-28 answers two common questions. First, how much power is my charger actually delivering? Second, is my cable capable of fast charging? One compact device handles both tasks.
Plug the tester between your charger and device. The screen displays real-time voltage, current and power readings. You see exactly what your phone, tablet or laptop receives during charging.
The quick charge trigger function activates specific voltage outputs from compatible chargers. Test whether your charger supports QC3.0, VOOC, or other protocols by triggering each one directly.
Measurement Capabilities
The FNAC-28 uses an external 16-bit ADC chip for high measurement accuracy. This precision matters when diagnosing charging problems or comparing charger performance.
Measurement Ranges
Voltage: 4V to 24V – covers standard USB 5V through to laptop USB-C power delivery
Current: 0A to 6.5A bidirectional – handles everything from trickle charging to high-power fast charging
Power: 0W to 156W – sufficient for phone chargers through to laptop adapters
Bidirectional current detection shows power flowing in either direction. A small arrow on screen indicates current flow direction. This helps when testing power banks that charge and discharge through the same port.
Fast Charging Protocol Support
The FNAC-28 detects and triggers multiple fast charging standards. Automatic detection identifies which protocols your charger supports without manual selection.
Supported Protocols
QC2.0 – triggers 5V, 9V, 12V or 20V output
QC3.0 – adjustable voltage from 3.4V to 20V
FCP (Huawei) – triggers 9V, 12V or 20V output
SCP (Huawei SuperCharge) – triggers 5.5V to 6.0V high-current mode
AFC (Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging) – triggers 9V or 12V output
VOOC/WARP (OnePlus/Oppo) – triggers 20V output
SVOOC 1.0 and SVOOC 2.0 – supported for super fast charging testing
This protocol coverage lets you verify charger capabilities before purchasing or troubleshoot why fast charging isn’t working with specific device combinations.
Cable Testing Features
Poor cables cause slow charging more often than faulty chargers. The FNAC-28 measures cable internal resistance using the differential pressure method. High resistance cables waste power as heat and limit charging speed.
Cable Detection Functions
Cable resistance measurement – identifies cables limiting charging current
DASH cable detection – verifies OnePlus/Oppo fast charging cable compatibility
Soft DASH cable support – tests flexible DASH cables
Apple 2.4A simulation – checks cables for iPad charging compatibility
These tests reveal whether your existing cables support fast charging or need replacing.
Data Recording and Display
The 1.06-inch colour TFT LCD provides clear readings at wide viewing angles. Despite the compact size, numbers remain readable in various lighting conditions.
Display Modes
Real-time voltage and current curves – see charging behaviour over time
D+/D- voltage curves – monitor USB data line voltages for protocol analysis
High-speed voltage and current curves – capture fast transients during protocol negotiation
Waveform pause – freeze display to examine specific moments
Adjustable time base – zoom in or out on curve displays
The device stores 5 sets of battery capacity data for comparing different charging sessions or power banks.
Interface Connections
The FNAC-28 integrates four connection points for maximum compatibility:
USB-A male (input) – connects to standard USB chargers and ports
USB-A female (output) – connects cables or devices with USB-A plugs
Type-C male (input) – connects to USB-C chargers and laptop ports
Type-C female (output) – connects USB-C devices and cables
This dual-interface design means one tester works with virtually any USB charging setup. No adapters needed for most common testing scenarios.
Practical Applications
Charger Testing
Verify actual output voltage and current under load. Compare claimed specifications against real-world performance. Identify counterfeit or degraded chargers before they damage devices.
Power Bank Evaluation
Measure input charging speed and output discharge capacity. Calculate actual usable capacity versus manufacturer claims. Monitor charging efficiency and heat-related losses.
Cable Quality Assessment
Test cables before purchase or diagnose slow charging problems. Identify high-resistance cables limiting fast charging performance. Verify fast charging cable compatibility with specific protocols.
Device Charging Analysis
Monitor phone and tablet charging profiles. Identify charging speed drops due to temperature throttling. Verify fast charging activation with specific charger and cable combinations.
Laptop USB-C Testing
Measure USB-C power delivery to laptops. Verify charger wattage meets laptop requirements. Test third-party chargers for compatibility and safety.
User Settings
The FNAC-28 offers practical customisation options:
Adjustable brightness – optimise screen visibility for different environments
Custom standby time – set auto-sleep delay to conserve power
Temperature units – switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit
Language selection – English and Chinese interfaces available
Firmware upgrades – update functionality via USB connection
What’s Included
- FNIRSI FNAC-28 USB Tester unit
- USB cable (USB-A to Type-C)
- User manual
- Colour packaging box
Limitations to Consider
The FNAC-28 does not support USB Power Delivery (PD) protocol detection or triggering. For testing USB-PD chargers and laptops requiring PD negotiation, consider the FNIRSI FNB58 which includes full PD support.
The 1.06-inch screen displays curves but detailed analysis benefits from the PC software connection for larger viewing.
