Mode 3: Combined Operation

The 2D15P allows simultaneous oscilloscope and multimeter operation:

COMMON MEASUREMENT TASKS

Oscilloscope Measurements

1. Basic Signal Viewing

Quick Start:

  1. Connect probe to CH1 input
  2. Connect probe ground clip to circuit ground
  3. Touch probe tip to signal point
  4. Press AUTO button for automatic setup
  5. Adjust vertical and horizontal scales as needed

Manual Adjustment:

  • If signal too large/small: Adjust V/div knob
  • If signal too fast/slow: Adjust s/div knob
  • If waveform not stable: Adjust trigger level

2. Measuring Digital Logic Signals

Setup:

  • Trigger mode: Normal (not Auto)
  • Coupling: DC
  • Probe: 10× position
  • Timebase: Start with 1 μs/div

Procedure:

  1. Connect probe to logic signal
  2. Set trigger level between high and low states
  3. Choose rising or falling edge trigger
  4. Capture signal and analyze timing

3. Power Supply Ripple Measurement

Setup:

  • Coupling: AC (blocks DC, shows only ripple)
  • Probe: 10×
  • Vertical sensitivity: Start with 10 mV/div
  • Bandwidth limit: ON (reduces noise)

Procedure:

  1. Connect probe to power supply output
  2. Wait 2-3 seconds for DC offset to stabilize
  3. Press AUTO or manually adjust to see ripple
  4. Measure pk-pk voltage for ripple amplitude

4. Frequency and Period Measurement

Automatic:

  • Press Measure menu
  • Select Frequency and Period parameters
  • Display shows measurements automatically

Manual with Cursors:

  • Enable time cursors
  • Position cursors at one complete cycle
  • Read ΔT (time difference)
  • Frequency = 1 / ΔT

5. Rise Time and Fall Time

Procedure:

  1. Display clear edge transition
  2. Enable time cursors
  3. Position cursors at 10% and 90% amplitude points
  4. Read rise time or fall time from ΔT

6. Pulse Width and Duty Cycle

Automatic:

  • Select Pulse Width+ and Duty Cycle+ measurements
  • For negative pulses, use Pulse Width- and Duty Cycle-

Manual:

  • Use time cursors to measure high time (t_high) and period (T)
  • Duty Cycle = (t_high / T) × 100%

Multimeter Measurements

1. Measuring Battery Voltage

Procedure:

  1. Rotate selector to V (DC voltage)
  2. Red lead to VΩHz, black to COM
  3. Touch red to battery +, black to battery –
  4. Read voltage on display

2. Testing LEDs and Diodes

Procedure:

  1. Rotate selector to diode test mode
  2. Disconnect component from circuit
  3. Touch red probe to anode, black to cathode
  4. Good diode: 0.4-0.7V (silicon), LED may light
  5. Reverse polarity: Should show “OL”

3. Checking Fuse Continuity

Procedure:

  1. Rotate selector to continuity mode ()))
  2. Touch probes to both ends of fuse
  3. Good fuse: Beep sound, ~0Ω displayed
  4. Blown fuse: No beep, “OL” displayed

4. Measuring AC Line Voltage

⚠️ WARNING: High voltage – be extremely careful!

Procedure:

  1. Rotate selector to V~ (AC voltage)
  2. Ensure leads in correct terminals
  3. Do not touch metal probe tips
  4. Insert probes into outlet (line and neutral)
  5. Read voltage (should be ~110V or ~220V depending on region)

5. Current Draw Testing

For currents < 600mA:

  1. Rotate selector to A or A~
  2. Red lead to mA terminal, black to COM
  3. Break circuit and insert meter in series
  4. Read current

For currents 600mA to 10A:

  1. Move red lead to 10A terminal
  2. Rotate selector appropriately
  3. Insert in series with load
  4. Do not exceed 10A
  5. Do not measure for more than 10 seconds at high current

6. Capacitor Testing

Procedure:

  1. Discharge capacitor completely first!
  2. Rotate selector to capacitance mode
  3. Remove capacitor from circuit
  4. Connect leads to capacitor terminals
  5. Wait for reading to stabilize (may take several seconds for large caps)
  6. Compare to rated value (±20% tolerance is normal)
